Megastarter Biotech (Pty) Ltd t/a MS Biotech is a South African company affiliated
with Megastarter Inc. - a corporation based in the USA. Megastarter Inc.
acquired the business related to the Megasphaera elsdenii organism from Yara
Phosphates in 2009.
Megastarter Inc. introduced the world’s first commercially available, live,
natural lactic acid utilising micro-organism (Megasphaera elsdenii) with which
feedlot cattle/sheep and dairy cattle are strategically dosed to prevent the
accumulation of lactic acid (and therefore acidosis) in the rumen. This action not
only aids ruminants to adapt quicker onto high-concentrate/starch diets,
but also allows for moving boundaries with regards to faster diet step-up
and/or to increase concentrate/starch levels in the diet. The focus is
therefore shifted to a new level of feed efficiency and animal production. Megastarter Inc’s strategic goal is to be the leading provider of the
Megasphaera elsdenii organism to the ruminant animal market in the global
arena. The company strategy is to continuously develop the core competencies
on the fermentation know-how, understanding the needs of the feed and
